North-eastern Morocco is located on a major SW-NE lineament characterized by recent generalized volcanic activity, a thinned crust and lithosphere, and anomalous geothermal gradients and heat flow density. In a study for GESTO ENERGY CONVERGE! assessed the geothermal potential of the aquifers in the Oriental Province of Morocco, in an area covering more than 60 000 km2, and developed a roadmap for exploration of the existing resources. The roadmap focuses primarily in opportunities for direct use of geothermal resources, but electricity production through binary power plants was also identified in a restricted region.
